Drywall Taping

Drywall Taping Services in Arvada, Colorado

Most people don’t realize that there’s more to taping drywall than just applying the adhesive to the walls. It’s actually a very complicated process and is crucial for hanging wallboard correctly.

State Drywall Arvada has been installing drywall in commercial and residential properties for years, so we know what to do. We typically use fire tape drywall so that it’s fire-resistant and safer for the property.

Mesh Versus Tape

Plasterboard tape and mesh aren’t self-sticking, so the joint compound is what adheres it to the walls.

Overall, fiberglass drywall tape has a rigidity that creates durable joints, whereas mesh is flexible and strong. It’s often a matter of preference, but sometimes one is better than the other. Our team can select the right material or use a combination of options to tape the sheetrock based on your specific needs.

Our Drywall Taping Process

Each drywall taping contractor employed by us uses similar steps, including:

1. Apply a thick layer of the joint compound between the drywall pieces. It should be about 1 inch deep.

2. Press the tape into the compound, pushing in every foot to ensure that the non-adhesive drywall tape sticks into the seam.

3. Smooth out the tape so that the joints between them are invisible. No tape edges should stick up.

4. Wait for the compound to dry, which takes about 24 hours.

5. Apply another coat of the joint compound, allow that to dry, and then use a third coat. Steps one through five take about three to four days,                      though this depends on speed and humidity.

6. Sand the seams to smoothness, which is part of the finishing drywall process.

7. Clean the walls to remove dust created by the sanding process.

We always follow these steps to produce accurate and excellent results each time.

What We’ve Learned

We’ve been taping drywall corners for a while now and have learned a few things. Please see the below processes we have in place to ensure you have a seamless drywall look.

  • Install the sheetrock sheets close together to avoid huge gaps. This often makes taping and mudding drywall that much easier and reduces the risk of errors.
  • Begin in the middle of the room to ensure that the tape doesn’t come loose.
  • Use larger plasterboard sheets for fewer seams. Smaller rooms get the standard 4x8 size, but larger areas have 4x10 or 4x12 wallboard.

Costs
